Welcome! SWBTU is a tenant-led organization that seeks to build community among tenants to defend ourselves against displacement in the fight for affordable housing. We believe that we are stronger together, and we are committed to fighting alongside all tenants citywide through community organizing, direct action, solidarity, and advocacy.

As a member-led organization, membership is a commitment to take responsibility for the health and well-being of SWBTU. As a member...

• I believe that housing is a human right.
• I commit to building political power as tenants with my neighbors in Southwest Brooklyn and across NYC. 
• I understand that together we must build the skills necessary to win justice for tenants and commit to attending trainings, actions, and events.
• I agree to join my neighbors in the collective struggle against all forms of discrimination and oppression, including practices that oppress people based on their race, gender, religion, sexual identity and orientation, political beliefs, migration status, or age.   
• I will treat my fellow members as I would like to be treated because it is only through working together that we will win.
• I will serve as an ambassador.  If I am selected to speak in public on behalf of the organization, I will represent what the Southwest Brooklyn Tenant Union is working on, not my own personal agenda.
